This week, WASHS learners learned about safety procedures that we will follow in the case of severe weather, fire, or an intruder. Today we practiced our intruder drill, also known as Run-Hide-Fight. Students were clearly informed this was a drill when it began. I am proud to share that our staff and learners did an excellent job during today's Run-Hide-Fight drill, having the building evacuated in less than five minutes and all learners accounted for in less than 10 minutes.  Additionally, earlier this week, our learners listened to an overview of Safe2Say Something, which is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General. Safe2Say allows learners to make anonymous tips in order to “say something” about threats from individuals either about themselves or to others. These tips are then referred to the appropriate agency, or our school, for follow-up and possible action. Thank you for your continued support of our learners and our building safety.

We are receiving information about a road closure on Rt. 16. If your learner rides bus 1, 17, or 57, the bus may be a few minutes late this morning, but please have your child ready at the stop at the typical time. Those on impacted bus routes will not be marked tardy.

On Thursday, our middle school and high school staff were wrapping up a great PD session about writing strategies when the fire alarm started to go off. Not a drill and no one pulled an alarm so out we went and within seconds the Waynesboro Fire Dept rolled in! Through their quick collaboration with our maintenance department, the problem was found to be a sensor (which will be replaced today, maintenance will be checking the rest as well). Thank you to the volunteers in our community who serve as firefighters and thank you for your quick response yesterday!
