WASHS Graduation Events

The WASD Board of School Directors approved a change to the 2022-23 WASD Calendar, making Friday, June 2, 2023 an Act 80 day. This means that Friday, June 2 will be a staff development day and students will be off. This change will alter our plans for graduation practice. The Commencement ceremony will remain on Friday, June 2, 2023.  I've updated our Graduation Information page to reflect changes in graduation practice. I've also summarized those changes below.

We can now share that each graduate will receive 10 tickets for graduation. Additional information about tickets, including how to request handicapped seating and/or additional tickets, are found on the webpage linked above.

Please also make sure to review the dress expectations for the ceremony. The school has extra neck ties if needed; please contact the school as soon as possible if there is a financial hardship that will pose a barrier to your child having the attire expected underneath the cap and gown so we can support you in this need.

Please review this information with your graduate and let us know if you have any questions.

Email shared with graduates today:

At last night's board meeting, a change in the district calendar was approved. Friday, June 2 will now be a staff development day and students will be off. This will therefore alter our plans for graduation practice, which will now be held on Tuesday, May 30; Wednesday, May 31; and Thursday, June 1. ALL PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY. If you work a job in the morning, please use the next month to make arrangements to be "off" so that you can attend graduation practice from 7:45 am - approximately 10:30 am each of these three days. I've added a graphic of each day's events below.

Your child's only expectation on Friday, June 2 will be to arrive at WASHS by 5:45 pm for graduation!

A few notes about graduation practice:

  • WE WILL NOT START UNTIL ALL GRADUATES HAVE ARRIVED! If your child is someone who struggles to be on time for things (or, if your best friend has difficulty being on time), plan on them being here at 7:30 am (or earlier!). EVERY YEAR, the entire group is waiting for a handful of people who come late and that is very frustrating!
  • Graduation practice will end when we have finished that day's tasks. If all graduates are all here on time and are mostly quiet when directions are given, we should be done by 10 - if not, it will be closer to 10:30 or 11:00 am.
  • Fines & Obligations must be paid in order to participate in graduation (and purchase a prom ticket). We can speed things up at practice if students address their fines and obligations now! Log into the Sapphire portal and click the piggy bank icon on the left side to check your obligations. Bring your payment to the WASHS main office during school hours to get that taken care of. If you owe an item that you have those can also be returned to the WASHS main office.
  • Chromebooks and chargers will be returned on the first day of graduation practice. If you don't or or both, you will need to pay for the cost of replacement. Please enter a ticket in the Student Help Desk so the tech department can create a bill for you. Again, things will go more smoothly if this is taken care of before graduation practice.

Thank you,
Dr. McCallum
