Transportation

The safe and efficient transportation of students is the primary goal of the department. The Waynesboro Area School District partners with several area contractors to provide transportation to our students who live outside of the maximum walking distance.

By the Numbers:

WASD transports more than 3,100 students to 6 public and 10 nonpublic schools.

Drives approximately 945,000 miles per year (Equivalent of driving from Waynesboro to Los Angeles AND back each day!)

Use 56 buses and vans to provide regular and specialized transportation.

Q&A:

Who do I call to change my child's address for transportation purposes?

  • Please contact the building secretary if your address has changed or if your child has a new permanent address for transportation purposes.

Can my child go home with another child for parties or other events?

  • To ensure the safety of our students, children must have only one pickup and one drop off location each week.

How far may a child be asked to walk to school or a bus stop?

  • State law and Board policy could require an elementary student to walk up to 1.5 miles, and a secondary student up to 2.0 miles. All mileage is based on public roads.

Who do I contact if I have a specific transportation question?

  • Missie Baer is the transportation coordinator. You can reach her at 717-762-1191 x1264.
