WAMS Vape Detectors

September 5, 2025

Dear WAMS Families and Community,

At Waynesboro Area Middle School, we are committed to collaborating with families to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for all learners. As part of our ongoing efforts to promote learner well-being, we have installed vape detectors in the bathrooms of our school. These detectors will be active beginning Monday, September 8th, and will serve as an additional measure to discourage vaping and other prohibited activities on school grounds.

Vaping poses serious health risks, especially for young people, and its presence in schools is a disruption to the learning environment. The introduction of vape detectors aligns with our commitment to fostering a space where learners can focus on their education without harmful distractions.

Learners found in violation of our school’s vaping policy will be subject to disciplinary action, which may include law enforcement referral in accordance with WASD school policy. Our goal is not just enforcement but also education—we encourage families to have open conversations about the dangers of vaping and the importance of making healthy choices.

We appreciate your support in maintaining a safe and positive school climate for all. If you have any questions or concerns, please email your learner’s grade level Assistant Principal or call the main office at 717-762-1191 ext 1300.

Thank you for partnering with us to ensure the well-being of our learners.

Thank you, and enjoy the weekend!
